Northern pike - tag and release only

As the only sportfishing charter operator in Sweden, FishYourDream.com offers anglers to participate in a research project trough a tag and release fishery.

The research project is initiated by FishYourDream.com and is studying the movement, growth, reproduction of Northern Pike in the Baltic. Also the study will show the impact of catch and release fishery on this species. You can only practice this fishery with one of our specially trained and licenced guides.

If you tag and release a pike you receive a certificate made by a gotland artist that holds info about the fish in question and also abot the angler making this contribution. If the pike later on is caught again, an email with info about this specific pike will be sent to the angler. Conservation and fun at the same time!

The season

The Baltic pike season is from early fall until the prohibit that starts in March. The prohibit lasts until the end of May. You can target pike in the summer too but due to low oxygen levels in warmer water, a catch and release fishery is not advisable.

The gear

Traditional coast style spinning or flyfishing gear is good, a 9-10 foot rod and a spinning reel with 0,25-0,30 mm nylon (or adequate braided line), covers it. Or a 9” class seven fly rod, with a reel that holds a lot of backing. The gear needs to be adjusted a little to ensure the survival of the Pike. You should use barbless hooks and preferably baits with a single hook. You also need a wire leader to keep the pike from cutting the line with its razor sharp teeth. Other gear you will need is Neoprene type waders or breathing ones (Gore-Tex) with something warm underneath, plus wader jacket or rain jacket on top.  If you lack any of this stuff you can of course rent it from us.
